چکیده

Segmentation subdivides a CAPTCHA image into its constituent regions or objects. The point to which the subdivision is carried depends on the problem being solved. That is, segmentation should end when the objects of interest inan application have been isolated. Without a good segmentation algorithm, an object may never be identifiable. Image segmentation continues to be an vital and active research area in image analysis. Many techniques have been proposed to deal with the image segmentation problem. They can be broadly grouped into the following categories. Histogram-Based Techniques, Edge-Based Techniques, Region-Based Techniques, Hybrid Techniques. The accuracy of segmentation is highly dependent on the success or failure of each computerized analysis procedure. After the segmentation process is over, we should be familiar with, which pixel belongs to which object, the discontinuities where abrupt changes lie, tell us the locations of boundaries of regions. The connectedness of any two pixels is identified when there exists a connected path wholly within the set, where a connected path is a path that always moves between neighboring pixels. Therefore, region is a set of adjacent connected pixels. Extensive researches have been made in designing and creating different segmentation

A Projection-based Segmentation Algorithm for Breaking MSN and YAHOO CAPTCHAs

Defeating a CAPTCHA test requires two procedures: segmentation and recognition. Recent research shows that the problem of segmentation is much harder than recognition. In this paper, a new projection-based segmentation algorithm is proposed for the MSN and Yahoo CAPTCHAs. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can improve correct segmentation rates ranging from 9% to 14% over the...

The Robustness of "Connecting Characters Together" CAPTCHAs

CAPTCHA is now commonly used as standard security technology to tell computers and humans apart. The most widely deployed CAPTCHAs are text-based schemes. In this paper, we document how we have broken such a text-based scheme which uses the “connecting characters together (CCT)” principle. CAPTCHAs of this type can be classified into three types: CAPTCHA with overlap but no noise arcs; CAPTCHA ...

Breaking CAPTCHAs with Convolutional Neural Networks

This paper studies reverse Turing tests to distinguish humans and computers, called CAPTCHA. Contrary to classical Turing tests, in this case the judge is not a human but a computer. The main purpose of such tests is securing user logins against the dictionary or brute force password guessing, avoiding automated usage of various services, preventing bots from spamming on forums and many others....

Machine Learning Approaches to CAPTCHA Recognition Requiring Minimal Image Processing

This study focuses on a machine learning approach to the CAPTCHA recognition problem that requires minimal preprocessing of inputs. Both the feed-forward neural nets and the self-organizing maps used in this study took the raw image pixels as input with only simple segmentation and translation performed in advance. The models were trained and tested on four and five letter CAPTCHAs using either...

A CAPTCHA Scheme Based on the Identification of Character Locations

CAPTCHAs are a standard security mechanism used on many websites to protect online services against abuse by automated programs, or bots. The purpose of a CAPTCHA is to distinguish whether an online transaction is being carried out by a human or a bot. Unfortunately, to date many existing CAPTCHA schemes have been found to be vulnerable to automated attacks. It is widely accepted that state-of-...
